Chennai, Jun 12: Timely alert issued to the Mundiyambakkam Station Master by the Salem-Chennai express train driver and the subsequent caution exercised by the engine crew led to the miraculous escape of nearly 1,500 passengers of the Rockfort Express early this morning after a portion of track was blown up by suspected LTTE supporters in Villuppuram District.
Police and Railway sources told UNI that the driver of the express train from Salem experienced a rude jolt while passing Chithani station near Villuppuram and immediately alerted the authorities at the Mundiyambakkam Railway station.
The authorities believe that the explosion occurred after the Salem-Chennai train had passed the Chithani station and minutes before the Superfast Trichy-Chennai Rockfort Express was to pass the stretch.
Wasting no time, the Mundiyambakkam Station master immediately cautioned his counterpart at Perani station, who as a precautionary measure, asked the driver of the Trichy-Chennai Rockfort Express to proceed with caution and reduce speed.
